Locum Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) Needs in NJ!

ATC West Healthcare Services is urgently seeking 1–2 experienced Physician Assistants to provide Cardiothoracic Surgery coverage in an inpatient, hospital-based setting. The PAs will support cardiac surgical procedures, inpatient rounding, and call coverage across weekdays, nights, and weekends. This role requires immediate availability and proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and first-assist surgical duties.

Dates / Schedule

• Start Date: ASAP

• Schedule:

  • Weekdays: Monday–Friday, 8–10-hour in-house shifts

  • Night Call: 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

  • Weekend Call: Friday 6:00 p.m. – Monday 6:00 a.m.

    • Rounding from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday

• Call Coverage: Weekday, weekend, and night call coverage needed (varied shifts)

• Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 60 days

Job Details / Responsibilities

• Practice Setting: Inpatient / Hospital-based (no trauma designation)

• Average Patient Volume: Operate on ~2 patients/day; round on 5–12 patients/day (ICU and floor); includes consults

• EMR System: Cerner

• Procedures Required:

  • Endoscopic retrieval of vascular tissues for bypass (EVH)

  • Chest tube insertions

  • First assist in cardiac surgery

• Key Duties:

  • Rounding and coordination of care

  • Assisting in surgery

  • Diagnosing and treating illnesses

  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests

  • Writing prescriptions and performing suture removal

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Certification: NCCPA Certified (PA-C) – Required

• Licensure: Active New Jersey State License and Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) – Required

• Certifications: BLS and ACLS – Required

• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience, including EVH and first-assist proficiency – Required

• EMR Experience: Cerner experience – Preferred
