Locum Cardiothoracic-Surgery PAs Needed in New Jersey! Let's talk!

ATC West Healthcare Services is urgently seeking 1–2 experienced Physician Assistants (PAs) to provide inpatient cardiothoracic surgery coverage. This role involves both operative and inpatient responsibilities, including first assist in cardiac surgery, rounding, and call coverage. The ideal candidate will be fully licensed in New Jersey and immediately available to begin work.

Dates / Schedule

• Start Date: ASAP

• Weekday Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8–10-hour in-house shifts

• Night Call: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM

• Weekend Call: Friday 6:00 PM – Monday 6:00 AM (includes rounding 7:00 AM–12:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday)

• Credentialing Timeframe: ~60 days

Job Details / Responsibilities

• Practice Setting: Inpatient / Hospital-based

• Patients per Day: Operate on ~2/day; round on 5–12/day (ICU and floor); includes consults

• Trauma Designation: None

• EMR: Cerner

• Duties Include:

  • First assist in cardiac surgery

  • Endoscopic vein harvesting and vascular tissue retrieval for bypass

  • Chest tube insertions and suture removal

  • Rounding and coordination of patient care

  • Diagnosing and treating illnesses

  • Ordering and interpreting tests

  • Writing prescriptions

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Certification: NCCPA (PA-C) – Required

• Licensure: Active New Jersey PA license – Required (no exceptions)

• Controlled Substance Registration (CSR): Required

• Experience: Minimum 2–3 years in cardiothoracic surgery, including proficiency in:

  • Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH)

  • First assist in cardiac surgery

• Certifications: BLS and ACLS – Required

• EMR Experience: Cerner – Preferred
