Physician Assistant – Thoracic Surgery (Surgical First Assist)

Bon Secours Mercy Health, a trusted leader in healthcare across Central Virginia, is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our growing Thoracic Surgery team at St. Mary’s Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside skilled surgeons and experienced advanced practice providers in a collegial, patient-focused environment.

Position Highlights

1. Full scope of care – Pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative management for thoracic surgical patients
2. First assist in the OR – Active participation in surgical procedures and procedural room cases
3. Diverse patient care – Rounding on inpatient census, outpatient follow-ups, ER/inpatient consultations, and coordination of discharge planning
4. Collaboration – Work closely with physicians, nurses, and ancillary services to ensure seamless patient care
5. Supportive structure – 1:1 CMA/LPN support

Schedule & Call

1. Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
2. Call rotation: 1:4 (clinical call; may include ER/hospital consults after training)

Requirements

1. PA-C
2. VA license or eligibility
3. CSFA required
4. BLS certification
5. Experience in surgery is preferred; new grads with strong surgical rotations considered

Practice Snapshot

1. Average 20 patients/day
