Private Neurosurgery surgical center & clinic located in San Antonio TX is seeking a certified Physician Assistant with a spine focus to join their well-established practice.
Currently there are 2 physicians in the group.
Position Highlights:
• Elective neurosurgical group practice
• Physician Assistant Department
• Spine focused
• No hospital call
• Office call evenly divided amongst PA department. Currently office call is once a month
• Approximately 600+ surgical cases a year
• Referrals generated by reputation and through the practice’s strategic marketing team
• Group admits to privileges at local hospitals
• Main headquarters office building, 16 exam rooms, in-office procedure suite
• Spanish speaker preferred but not required
• Physical Therapy in-house
• Medical Assistant support staff
• Full-time position
• W-2 employee
• Bonus structure

Job Responsibilities
Formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis. Develop a treatment plan for neurosurgical conditions within the scope of practice and in conjunction with the neurosurgeon when applicable. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions where appropriate. Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising neurosurgeon or other healthcare professionals. Charting patient notes in a timely manner consistent with office policies of 1-2 business days from date of service.
2. Hospital duties: To include but not limited to first assistant in surgery, closure of a deep and superficial wounds.
To assist with all neurosurgical procedures to include cranial and spinal procedures, including instrumentation and microscopic procedures. Conduct hospital rounds on a daily basis of all patients including intensive care unit. Write orders, progress notes, perform all admission history and physicals, order appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests
such as MRI, myelograms, bone scans, and other radiographic studies as needed or indicated. May include performing appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies. Evaluate and clarify clinical conditions, formulate and implement a treatment and therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients, discharge planning and dictate discharge summaries.
Communicate inpatient status with attending and group physicians on a daily basis. Review X-rays, MRI, CT, miscellaneous images and labs of inpatients and office patients with the attending neurosurgeon.
3. Office duties: To include but not limited to treating clinic patients both independently and under physician supervision, with a complete and thorough history and physical examination that is problem oriented for neurosurgical conditions. Present that patient to the attending neurosurgeon and then help formulate a treatment plan, order appropriate radiographic studies and perform office procedures such as trigger point injection or steroid injection as
indicated. Evaluate postoperative patients and routine follow-up visits. Be available to see those patients that require a same-day office visit and charting patient notes in a timely manner consistent with office policies of 1-2 business days of date of service. Some duties include returning phone calls from patients, calling each post-operative patient and
documenting call, submit order(s), handle prescription refills, review radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities and manage surgery ready preoperative checklist.
Qualifications
Board Certified
BLS, DEA
First assist experience, or certified
Client is also willing to look at providers that don't nec have the surgical experience but that can work in the clinic.
