Job description
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with recent neurosurgery experience to join their team on a locum tenens basis. This is a full-time role supporting two neurosurgeons in clinic, hospital, and OR settings. The assignment includes first-assist surgical duties, hospital rounding, and outpatient follow-up care.
- Provide comprehensive support for neurosurgeons, including:
- First-assist in surgical procedures such as craniotomies, spinal fusions, and decompressions
- Rounding independently in ICU, PICU, NICU, Peds, Med/Surg units
- Managing outpatient clinic visits (10–12 patients/day)
- Handling ER/urgent care consults, post-op care, and patient education
- Participate in a 1:3 call schedule (weekdays and weekends; beeper, 20-minute response time)
- Conduct bedside procedures and assist with urgent interventions
- Complete documentation including FMLA paperwork, phone triage, med refills
- Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Must have recent hands-on experience in neurosurgery, including first-assist in OR
- Must be comfortable working across inpatient, outpatient, and surgical settings
- Board certification required
- ACLS, ATLS, BLS, and PALS certifications required
- Licensed or eligible to work in Wisconsin (no license requirement to bid, but must be licensed before start)
- Able to work full-time and meet call schedule requirements (do not apply if unable)
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Clinic load: 10–12 patients per day
- Call: 1:3 (includes weekends and weeknights)
- Call type: beeper, 20-minute response time required
- Inpatient and outpatient mix; rounding across all hospital units
- Surgical first-assist in neurosurgery
