Physician Assistant Job Requirements

• At least 3 years of cardiothoracic surgery experience; new graduates will not be considered
• Board Certified Physician Assistant
• Active Pennsylvania Physician Assistant license; candidates requiring a new state license will not be considered
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Demonstrated experience supporting cardiothoracic surgery and heart-team operations
• Ability to provide local coverage as required
• Clean background required
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and care-coordination skills

Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant Responsibilities

• Support the cardiothoracic surgery team in the operating room and inpatient hospital setting
• Perform preoperative physical examinations and patient evaluations
• Round on adult cardiothoracic surgery patients, including weekend rounding
• Assess, diagnose, and treat illnesses and postoperative complications
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests
• Assist with cardiothoracic surgical procedures
• Perform suture removal and chest tube insertions
• Perform endoscopic retrieval procedures as clinically appropriate
• Write prescriptions within scope of practice
• Coordinate care with surgeons, nurses, specialists, patients, and families
• Provide overnight, weekend, and on-call coverage for urgent patient needs
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation in Epic
