Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant - Nocturnist

Methodist Medical Group (MMG) a premier physician-led organization affiliated with Methodist Health System in Dallas, Texas, is actively seeking a dedicated, full-time nocturnist Physician Assistant to join the trauma surgery team at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, Texas. You will work collaboratively with a team of six double-boarded Trauma Surgeons, experienced nurses, and other healthcare professionals who deliver outstanding care to our trauma patients.

Responsibilities

  1. Triage and run Level 2 trauma activations, manage acute resuscitation
  2. Assist with Level I trauma activations
  3. Perform procedures such as EFAST exams, central and arterial line insertion, intubation and bronchoscopic procedures
  4. Assist in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery operative procedures
  5. Round on a diverse patient population in the ICU, critical care, and trauma floors
  6. Collaborate closely with the Trauma Medical Director and the trauma team
  7. Contribute to the delivery of high-quality trauma care overnight
  8. Manage patients in the Emergency Department, ICU, intermediate care, and on the floor
  9. Perform comprehensive and interval history and physical exams
  10. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies
  11. Document findings and treatment plans in the EMR
  12. Educate patients regarding diagnoses and treatment plans
  13. Prescribe or recommend therapeutic procedures and medications
  14. Refer patients to physicians or specialized health resources as needed
  15. Assume additional duties as needed within scope of licensure

Qualifications

  1. Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program and board certified as an PA
  2. Active license or eligibility to practice in the State of Texas
  3. Certifications (Preferred):
    1. ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    2. ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) – familiarity or certification preferred
    3. BLS (Basic Life Support)
    4. FCCS (Fundamental Critical Care Support) – optional but beneficial
  4. Minimum of 2–5 years of clinical experience in trauma, critical care, or ICU settings preferred
  5. Strong surgical and critical care knowledge base
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  7. Ability to remain calm and communicate effectively in high-pressure situations
  8. Proficiency in EMR documentation and clinical decision-making

Work Environment

  1. Full-time nocturnist position
  2. Atmospherics include the rewarding nature of trauma, quickly evolving critical care, collaboration, communication, and management overnight with the Attending surgeon
