Join Our Team as a Locum Physician Assistant (PA) – Orthopedic Surgery in Coos Bay, OR

As a Locum Physician Assistant, you will work alongside experienced orthopedic surgeons to deliver exceptional care, perform surgical procedures, and contribute to positive patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with attending physicians to record patient history, develop care plans, and participate in daily rounds.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including EMG, x-rays, CT, MRI, and bone scans.
  • Perform procedures such as digital blocks, regional anesthesia, wound management, tendon repairs, joint and bursa injections, and assist in surgical operations.
  • Serve as the primary orthopedic call provider in the hospital, managing emergency and inpatient cases, including after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Conduct hospital rounds, write orders, and assist in post-surgical care, including wound care, immobilizations, and hardware removals.
  • Evaluate patient conditions, formulate treatment plans, and document discharge summaries and histories.

Required Skills:
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems, with the ability to document, assess, and manage patient care simultaneously.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in high-pressure or emergent situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients.

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience in orthopedic surgical procedures and outpatient patient management.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases efficiently and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with hospital-based emergency and inpatient care protocols.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current, valid certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Prior experience in orthopedic surgery, trauma, or emergency care setting is advantageous.
  • Active state licensure to practice as a PA in Oregon or eligible for licensure.

Other Requirements:
  • Availability to cover scheduled and emergency call shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel within the region for coverage as needed.
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are preferred.

Hourly Pay Rate: $156.00
