Mercy Health in Toledo, Ohio is launching a new Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery program, expanding access to advanced, life-saving care for patients across northwest Ohio. As this exciting program grows, the organization is seeking a Physician Assistant who values collaborative practice, meaningful patient relationships, and the opportunity to help build a service line from its foundation.
This role offers the opportunity to join a developing transplant program and work alongside an experienced, multidisciplinary team caring for patients undergoing solid organ transplantation and complex hepatobiliary surgical procedures. The position spans the full continuum of care, including inpatient, outpatient, and operative settings.

Job Responsibilities
Participate in pre-transplant and pre-operative evaluations.
Manage inpatient transplant and hepatobiliary surgery patients, including daily rounds and care coordination.
Assist in the operating room during transplant and related surgical procedures.
Provide post-operative care and monitor for complications.
Prescribe and manage medications, including immunosuppressive therapies, in accordance with established protocols.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies.
Perform bedside procedures within scope of practice.
Educate patients and families throughout the transplant and surgical care journey.
Qualifications
Current or eligible Physician Assistant licensure in the state of Ohio.
NCCPA certification.
BLS and ACLS certification.
Ability to work independently while collaborating closely within a multidisciplinary team.
Experience in transplant, hepatobiliary surgery, general surgery, or critical care is preferred, though motivated candidates with a strong interest in complex surgical care are encouraged to apply.
Working Hours
The role includes structured mentorship and a supportive onboarding process as part of a new program, with increasing autonomy as experience and program volume grow.
