Job description
A facility in Portsmouth, NH is seeking an experienced Locums Trauma Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide on-site trauma coverage, assist in critical care rounds, and support surgical teams as needed. This role includes both weekday and weekend shifts with a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour schedules. First-assist experience is preferred but not required.
Schedule & Coverage
- Monthly Requirements: Up to 8–9 days of on-site trauma coverage / backup coverage
- Shift Options:
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Coverage Days: Monday–Friday with weekend coverage as needed
- Setting: Trauma APP coverage for inpatient rounding
Responsibilities
- Provide trauma surgery support and inpatient rounding
- Assist in first-assist duties when applicable
- Perform critical care rounding on trauma patients
- Collaborate with trauma surgeons, hospitalists, and the multidisciplinary team
- Manage daily patient evaluations, documentation, orders, and care planning
- Respond to trauma consults as needed
Patient Volume
- Average Daily Census: ~10 patients
Requirements
- NH State Licensed: PA or APRN
- Board Certified or Board Eligible
- ATLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience in trauma, acute care surgery, or critical care strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently within scope while collaborating with attending physicians
- Familiarity with trauma protocols and inpatient hospital workflows
