Job description
- A Physician Assistant is needed to provide locum coverage in the General Surgery department.
- This role is primarily OR-focused, with a heavy emphasis on bedside first-assist in robotic surgical cases across multiple specialties.
- The assignment offers consistent weekday hours with no call responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
• Perform port placement and closure of port sites.
• Provide occasional assistance in non-robotic surgical cases as needed.
• Handle discharge/depart documentation and outpatient prescriptions when required.
• Collaborate with surgeons, residents, scrub techs, and circulating nurses in a high-volume OR setting.
Qualifications
• Active Michigan Physician Assistant license – REQUIRED (no exceptions).
• BLS & ACLS (AHA-certified) – REQUIRED.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience in robotic bedside first-assist across multiple surgical specialties – REQUIRED.
• EMR experience with Cerner – Preferred.
• Clean malpractice history – Preferred.
Working Hours
• 40 hours per week.
• No call requirements.
Skills
• Proficiency in general surgical techniques, including port placement and closure.
• Strong knowledge of GYN, urology, bariatric, and general surgery cases.
• Ability to function effectively in a high-volume surgical environment with residents and attendings.
• EMR documentation (Cerner preferred).
