Surgical Assistants are responsible for the following:

• The surgical assistant performs specific tasks according to individual surgeon preference utilizing appropriate techniques including but not limited to: incision and layered closure of surgical sites, providing exposure, achieving hemostasis y means of injection, manual/and topical methods, and application of appropriate energy sources, manipulation and dissection/removal of tissues, aids in implanting, securing and/or removal of devices and drains and applying appropriate dressing material specific to that procedure.

The Surgical Services Attendant performs a variety of services and patient care activities related to the medical care of patients who are undergoing surgery, with the goal of supporting the nursing staff in providing quality healthcare to each patient.

Qualifications for this position include:

• Graduate of a CAAHEP (ARC/STSA) accredited school of Surgical Assisting required.

• One or more years of surgical assisting experience required.

• Current certification as a Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) required.

• Current CPR Certification required.

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson’s clinical entities or at the University. If you are not currently vaccinated you will be required to receive the vaccination prior to hire date if you are offered employment, unless you request and receive an approved medical or religious exemption from Jefferson.
