Very Busy Cardiothoracic Surgery Group seeking a full-time, experienced physician assistant to support the cardiac surgery services.

This is a comprehensive cardiothoracic role where the candidate will function in the Operating Room, Inpatient and pre/operative and postoperative care. The PA will work 4 10 hour shifts per week, only one night of call per week for the operating room, and only one-weekend call per month! The Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant will function in the day to day surgical operations; efficient function in the Surgical Suites and the delivery of quality healthcare in the pre, intra, and postoperative units as necessary. The Physician Assistant, under the direction and responsibility of the attending physician, will provide surgical first assistance during the inpatient operative surgeries, performing the full spectrum of cardiac surgeries including the functions of endovascular vein harvesting, wound closures, retract, suction, sponge, clamp, tie and cauterizing vessels adhering to strict aseptic techniques. In addition, the physician assistant will be able to take patient history, performing a physical examination, and recording pertinent patient data, dictates notes for consultations and progress notes with accuracy and efficiency as appropriate per patient. Participates in rounds with the surgeon pre or postoperatively and will assist with the management and coordination of care as appropriate.

Education:
- Completion of an accredited Physician’s Assistant program required.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of cardiac surgery operating room first assistant experience required.
- Possess a solid medical knowledge base for cardiopulmonary crucial care medicine.
- Possess critical thinking skills and adaptability to the cardiac surgery service line.
- Communication skills to work collaboratively with medical and surgical colleagues, staff and orientates.
- Successful completion of endovascular vein harvesting program with at least 2 years of clinical experience and the ability for easy transfer to open harvesting.

License/Certification:
- NCCPA certified
- Currently licensed as a Physician's Assistant in the State of New Jersey.
- Current American Heart Association ACLS/BLS certification required
