A leading cardiac surgery program in Southern Colorado is seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant with a minimum of three years of cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgery experience. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, cutting-edge surgical environment focused on delivering exceptional patient-centered care across the OR, ICU, and clinic settings.
This position is ideal for a clinically strong PA who thrives in complex cardiac cases and fast-paced perioperative environments.
Job Responsibilities
• First assist in complex cardiac surgical procedures
• Perform endoscopic vein harvesting using advanced systems
• Manage CVICU, floor, and clinic patients including rounding and evaluations
• Participate in two full-day clinics weekly and additional patient visits as needed
• Rotate through operating room coverage Monday through Friday
• Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests
• Develop and implement treatment plans and follow-up care
• Perform bedside procedures appropriate to cardiac surgery patients
• Ensure accurate, timely clinical documentation
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary care teams
Qualifications
• PA-C certification through NCCPA – Required
• Minimum 3+ years of cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgery experience with ICU management – Required
• Experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting – Required
• Unrestricted DEA license with full prescriptive authority – Required
• BLS certification (AHA or American Red Cross) – Required
• Unrestricted medical staff privileges – Required
• Most recent NPDB Self-Query (within 30 days) – Required
• Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid provider status – Required
• No sanctions or exclusions from HHS/OIG or GSA – Required
• Not open to locums or locums-to-perm candidates
• Visa sponsorship not available
Working Hours
• Monday–Friday schedule
• OR coverage and two full clinic days per week
• ICU and inpatient rounding responsibilities
Skills
• Strong ICU and CVICU patient management
• Expertise in endoscopic vein harvesting
• Independent clinical judgment under physician supervision
• Ability to perform in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment
