Job description
A Level I Trauma Center in Lansing, Michigan is seeking an experienced Locum Physician Assistant to support its Cardiovascular Surgery team. This position focuses on inpatient rounding and patient management for both cardiac and vascular surgery services. The role does not include operating room responsibilities and is ideal for an APP experienced in high-acuity inpatient cardiovascular care.
The assignment is available starting February and was created to support coverage following a recent APP resignation.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients
• Coordinate patient discharges and follow-up care
• Support CVICU, step-down, and floor patients
• Manage weekend patient lists independently when scheduled
• Respond to on-call responsibilities as first call from home
• Document patient care accurately in the EMR
• Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications
• Active Michigan medical license preferred
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Prior cardiovascular surgery or inpatient surgical experience required
• Clean malpractice and license history strongly preferred
• NPDB Self-Query required (within the last 30 days)
Working Hours
• On-call rotation: 1 in 4 weeks (first call from home)
• One weekend per month required
• Weekend patient volume may be higher

• CVICU and step-down unit experience
• Discharge planning and coordination
• EMR documentation (Epic experience preferred)
• Independent clinical decision-making
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
