UCHealth Cardiac Surgery Team in Colorado Springs, Colorado is actively seeking a skilled, motivated Physician Assistant with at least 3 years of cardiac or cardiovascular surgery experience and ICU patient management to join their full-time, cutting-edge surgical team focused on delivering extraordinary patient care.
Job Description:
As a Physician Assistant with UCHealth Cardiac Surgery, you will:
- Provide expert perioperative care for cardiothoracic surgery patients with a patient-first approach
- Assist in complex cardiac surgeries, including endoscopic vein harvesting using the Maquet-Getinge system and first assisting in surgical procedures
- Manage ICU and cardiovascular surgical patient care, including rounding and evaluation of CVICU, floor, and clinic patients
- Participate in 2 full-day clinics weekly and see additional patients as needed on other days
- Rotate through operating room coverage Monday through Friday
- Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, intensivists, and healthcare professionals in a collegial, multidisciplinary environment
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Develop and implement detailed plans of care and follow-up based on diagnostic outcomes
- Order medications and write prescriptions per policy and regulations
- Perform bedside procedures appropriate for the patient population
- Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment and operate independently under physician supervision
- Complete ongoing CME to maintain and enhance clinical skills
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical setting with changing organizational climate
- Show flexibility, problem-solving ability, teamwork, and a positive cultural fit

- Competitive salary range: $100,588 to $143,769 annually, commensurate with experience

- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies– [REQUIRED]
- PA-C certification by NCCPA – [REQUIRED]
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in cardiac or cardiovascular surgery and ICU patient management or experience with endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting - [REQUIRED]
- Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license to prescribe medications – [REQUIRED]
- Full prescriptive authority, in accordance with medical staff privileging – [REQUIRED]
- Unrestricted medical staff membership with appropriate practice privileges – [REQUIRED]
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross – [REQUIRED]
- Eligible to provide reimbursable services and maintain provider status with Medicare and Medicaid – [REQUIRED]
- No current or prior sanctions or exclusions from HHS/OIG or the GSA List of Excluded Individuals and Entities – [REQUIRED]
