Job description Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant
High-Autonomy Role | Dallas–Fort Worth Metro

Take the next step in your cardiothoracic surgery career with a high-performing surgical team in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Physician Assistant with EVH expertise to join a dynamic adult cardiac program working alongside 4 experienced surgeons and 3 PAs at a flagship hospital.

This role offers true full-spectrum cardiac care — pre-op, first assist, ICU management, and outpatient follow-up — with strong autonomy and direct collaboration with a lead surgeon.

Position Highlights
  • First assist in the OR with Endovascular Vein Harvesting (EVH)
  • Manage pre-operative, post-operative, ICU, and step-down care
  • Mix of inpatient rounding and outpatient clinic follow-up
  • Perform bedside procedures (chest tube removal, line removal, wound care)
  • Focused support of one lead surgeon
  • Shared call schedule: 1:3 weekday call / 1:4 weekend call
  • Active involvement in discharge planning, patient education, and quality initiatives
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary cardiac team environment

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Active NCCPA certification
  • Minimum 1 years of EVH experience (required)
  • 2–3 years of cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, or surgical experience
  • BLS, ACLS, and active DEA
  • Strong clinical judgment managing complex surgical patients
  • Comfortable practicing with autonomy in a high-acuity setting
