Chief Physician Assistant - Cardiothoracic Surgery
Full-Time Position
In this role, the physician assistant may, under the supervision of a licensed physician, perform any and all services which are: a) within the competence of the physician assistant in question, as determined by the supervising physician's assessment of his or her training and experience and b) within the scope of services for which the supervising physician can provide adequate supervision to ensure that accepted standards of medical practice are followed. In addition to these duties, the Chief Physician Assistant participates in recruiting and training Advanced Practice Providers (APPs); serves as liaison between the APPs and physician staff; collaborates with the Chief of the Department in developing and implementing the activities of the APPs; works with the Chief and Director in developing and maintaining appropriate budgetary guidelines and other program activities; and performs other duties as noted below.
All physician assistants are supervised by a supervising physician. The Chief Physician Assistant coordinates the activities of the team of APPs (both inpatient and outpatient).
EDUCATION:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician’s Assistant’s program with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Federal DEA; Massachusetts Controlled Substance; Massachusetts DPH Board of Registration; CPR Life Support; NCC-PA certificate
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-5 years clinical experience
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Must have 3-5 years clinical experience including recent experience preferable
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various health systems and cost reduction strategies.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served.
- Self-directed, self-starter and able to implement new program.
- Demonstrated ability as an effective leader.
- Demonstrated ability to apply principles of adult learning to provide education to staff, physician, and auxiliary staff.
- Analytical ability to solve clinical issues and conduct quality improvement and research projects.
- Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently to complete assigned workload.
- Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served
- Ability to manage stress due to critical patient care issues, changing organizational climate and personnel issues.
- Multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to patient populations served by the Medical Center.
