Pathology Assistant Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Pathology Assistant in a hospital or clinical laboratory
  • Expertise in specimen accessioning, labeling, and grossing
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Commitment to laboratory safety, compliance, and hospital policies

Pathology Assistant Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate accession records and ensure proper specimen labeling and fixation
  • Perform grossing and detailed dissections for surgical pathology specimens
  • Enhance laboratory efficiency through effective workflow coordination
  • Verify specimen receipt and integrity; collaborate with clerical and medical staff
  • Conduct quality audits and maintain a clean, sterile laboratory environment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Support staffing needs across all shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Communicate professionally with medical staff, hospital personnel, and supervisors
  • Comply with all hospital and laboratory safety requirements and healthcare regulations
  • Contribute to departmental improvements and perform additional duties as assigned
