Pain Management Physician Assistant
Position Summary
The Pain Management Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive care to patients with acute and chronic pain conditions. Working collaboratively with pain management physicians and the multidisciplinary care team, the PA evaluates patients, develops treatment plans, assists with procedures, and supports ongoing pain management across outpatient and procedural settings.
Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive pain assessments, including medical history and physical examinations

Evaluate and manage patients with acute, chronic, and complex pain conditions

Develop and implement individualized pain management treatment plans under physician supervision

Assist with interventional pain procedures as appropriate (e.g., injections, nerve blocks, ablations)

Provide medication management in accordance with clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements

Order, interpret, and document diagnostic studies, imaging, and laboratory tests

Monitor treatment response and adjust care plans as needed

Educate patients and families on pain conditions, treatment options, risks, and expectations

Coordinate care with physical therapy, behavioral health, primary care, and specialty providers

Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record

Participate in quality improvement, compliance, and patient safety initiatives
Patient Population
-
Adult patients with musculoskeletal, neuropathic, post-surgical, and degenerative pain conditions
-
May include spine-related pain, joint pain, headaches, and chronic regional pain syndromes
Schedule
-
Primarily outpatient, day shift
-
No overnight shifts; minimal call depending on practice needs
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Current national certification as a Physician Assistant

Active or eligible state licensure

BLS certification required
-
Prior experience in pain management, orthopedics, PM&R, neurology, or primary care preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills

Knowledge of multimodal and evidence-based pain management strategies

Ability to manage controlled substances responsibly and in compliance with regulations

Excellent communication and patient counseling skills

Strong organizational and documentation abilities
Work Environment

Outpatient clinic and procedural suite settings
