Cardiothoracic Surgery PA Opportunities in Kentucky!

ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a certified Physician Assistant (PA) with advanced skills in Cardiothoracic Surgery first assist procedures, including CABG, AVR, MVR, and thoracotomy/lung resection cases. This role includes both OR and inpatient responsibilities (telemetry and ICU) as well as shared call coverage. The ideal candidate will be an experienced surgical PA who can independently manage pre- and post-operative cardiac patients and provide consistent support to the surgical team.

Dates / Schedule

• Start Date: As soon as credentialed (approximately 90–110 days for credentialing)

• Schedule: 1–2 call days per week, plus one weekend per month

• Call Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

• Weekend Call: Friday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM

• FTE: PRN (as needed coverage)

Job Details / Responsibilities

• Setting: Inpatient / Operating Room

• Duties Include:

  • First assist in CABG, AVR, MVR, thoracotomy, and lung resection cases

  • Perform vein harvesting and chest tube placement

  • Provide ICU and telemetry management for surgical patients

  • Conduct inpatient rounds, procedures, and weekend surgical coverage

  • Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons; no additional support staff required

• EMR System: Epic

• Reason for Coverage: Temporary need due to loss of a PA; support needed during recruitment of a new full-time provider

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Licensure: Active Kentucky PA License (or eligibility to obtain) – Required

• Board Certification: Required

• Certifications: ACLS and BLS – Required

• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in cardiothoracic surgical assisting and independent procedural work (vein harvest, chest tube placement, etc.)

• Malpractice History: Clean record preferred

• Availability: Must confirm availability during name clear process – Highly Preferred
