Harlem Hospital Center provides a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and family support services. The hospital is a 286 bed acute care facility and a designated Level 1 Trauma Center, with a full spectrum of specialty services, including a burn unit, an adult intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit, stroke and a cardiac care unit.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Chief of Orthopedics work as the primary health care provider in collaborating with a licensed physician. Assist in performing physical examinations, obtain medical histories, records pertinent data as required. Under the direction of supervising physician: arranges for tests as necessary, performs rounds, transcribes and executes specific orders, obtains appropriate authorization forms, and writes and signs preliminary discharge summaries. Performs basic/advanced life support. Efficiently assist any covering physician with surgery-related cases in the Operating Room or minor procedures as needed. performs duties that are required to meet CMS and NYS regulatory guidelines for patient management.

Qualifications:

  • Required Qualifications:

    Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution

    Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant educational program

    Current NYS registration as a Physician Assistant

    Current certification issued by the NCCPA

    Minimum of one year experience in surgery

    Must be ACLS/BLS certified

    Must have proven ability to work in a team environment and must be able to interact with patients and their families in a manner that instills confidence and facilitates communication.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Ability to care for pre and post operative patients on floor.

    Ability to respond to trauma consults in the ED.

    Be familiar with fracture reductions (splinting and casting)

    Be able to assist in OR. Willing to train.
