Job description Physician Assistant – Orthopedic Surgery (Permanent, Full-Time)

Location: Coos Bay, Oregon Setting: Hospital-employed | Level III Trauma | 27-bed hospital Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift + Shared Call Relocation: Required if not local Visa Candidates: Accepted Experience: New grads accepted; experience preferred EMR: Epic

Quick-Screen Requirements

License/Certifications:

  • Oregon PA license (or ability to obtain)

  • NCCPA Certification

  • Ability to perform surgical assists and orthopedic procedures

Schedule & Call:

  • Full-time, day shift

  • Shared call (schedule TBD; includes weekday, weekend, holiday, and 24-hour call rotation)

  • Occasional weekend work

  • Must reside in the immediate local area

Core Clinical Skills:

  • Surgical first assist

  • ED orthopedic consults

  • Inpatient floor rounding

  • Pre-op and post-op management

  • Ordering tests, prescribing meds, documenting progress/discharge notes

  • Interpreting labs and diagnostics

  • Joint/bursa aspirations, fracture reductions, wound care, digital blocks, regional anesthesia

  • Minor outpatient procedures

  • Assist in surgery (closures, appliances, delegated tasks)

  • Primary orthopedic call for ED and inpatient units

Practice Model & Team
  • Hospital-employed position

  • Work closely with 2–3 surgeons

  • High-caliber, collegial orthopedic service line

  • Custom orientation based on experience

  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds

  • Engage in quality, safety, documentation, and research initiatives

Physical / Technical Requirements
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 75 lbs

  • Adequate hearing/vision; fine motor skills

  • Ability to function under stress and in emergent situations

  • Strong interpersonal communication and documentation skills

  • Proficient in EMR workflow (Epic)
