Job Description

Last Update: 12/20/18

We are seeking to expand our provider network for our Medicare DME Orthotic Telehealth division. Private insurance carriers are being brought on board in the next few months as well.

Here are the qualifications:

Certification Requirements: Physicians and Practitioners must be CERTIFIED PECOS providers. You can take consults from every state where you hold an active medical license. Please go to this website and enter your NPI # to determine if you are Pecos enrolled at this time. ([Register to View] ). If you recently enrolled in the Pecos program, it may take up to 60 days for this site to show your enrollment.

Description of your patient: Our Medicare and Private Insurance patients are seeking non-narcotic pain alternatives. Many of the patients have either had surgery or have pain in their back or extremities and desire some type of brace to help them stay active. They are looking for access to a physician/provider via telehealth to determine if they qualify for a Durable Medical Equipment device through Medicare or their insurance carrier. They’ve seen the braces via advertisements and would prefer that their insurance pay for the brace if determined that they qualify for a device. The patient intake will already be noted on the patient file.

Description your role: You will be providing an Orthotic Telehealth assessment for these patients to certify medical necessity (or not) based on your assessment. DMERX software will be used to assist in compiling a CMN. There is never any pressure for a prescription, as you speak with the patient, you will decide whether an orthotic is medically necessary. DME Orthotics will not be issued under a DEA, therefore a DEA is not required.

Each consultation will include:

  • Reviewing each patient's medical history provided to you by our clients before the consult in the DMERX software.
  • Contacting the patients via your cell phone/home phone and reviewing their medical history along with the products they are seeking. Scheduled patient appointments or call transfers will occur during the allotted blocks of time that you provide based on your availability.
  • Digitally signing their orthotic order/prescription after consult is completed upon your approval.

  • If you are a NP or PA and require a Collaborating MD agreement, you will be required to provide the agreement. Some states do NOT require an agreement as the DME’s are not written under a DEA or you have autonomy as a Provider. However, if you are not sure of the requirements, please check with your State Medical Board to verify.

Consultations: Each consult takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes per patient at first, but tend to lessen to 7-10 min once provider becomes familiar with the software and process. Consults will be a pre-set appointment based on the blocks of time you provide, reflecting your availability. The best blocks of time each are from 8AM-12, 12 to 4P and 4P-8P. Hours are needed Mon-Sun. We require 5 days/week, 3-4 hours each day (consecutive or split hours).

Consults are currently made through an app that you download to your cell phone; [Register to View] Consults are recorded and must be made through the [Register to View] app. Once familiarized with the DMERX software, providers tend to perform 4-6 per hour. 8-10/day is approximately 2 hours.
