Job Description:
As a Medical Oncology Physician Assistant at Cook County Health and Hospital System, you'll be responsible for evaluating patients who do not have scheduled oncologist visits and addressing chemotherapy-related adverse events. You'll also handle walk-in assessments and provide coverage for providers on consult service by seeing their clinic patients. Your duties will include signing chemotherapy orders, modifying doses as directed, and refilling prescriptions. Additionally, you'll return patient calls escalated by clinic staff, order NGS testing under provider direction, and educate patients about chemotherapy and its potential toxicities. You will manage a patient load of up to 8-10 patients per day, collaborating closely with clinical pharmacists and other healthcare providers.
Job Responsibilities
• Provide assessments for walk-in patients and cover for providers on consult service by seeing their clinic patients.
• Sign chemotherapy orders and dose modifications as directed, and refill prescriptions as needed.
• Return patient calls escalated by clinic triage nurses/staff and determine the urgency of their needs.
• Order NGS testing under provider direction.
• Educate patients about chemotherapy and its toxicities.
• Manage a patient load of up to 8-10 patients per day.
• Collaborate with clinical pharmacists and other providers in the clinic and infusion center.
Qualifications
• Active IL DEA and Controlled Substance License required upon start.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in internal medicine, oncology, and/or hematology.
