What You’ll Do:

As a valued member of our healthcare team, the PA will play a key role in team-focused patient care, conducting thorough examinations and evaluations in an ambulatory setting. Responsibilities include:

  1. Provide a variety of care visits ranging from urgent care to chronic care management.
  2. Provide preventive care and wellness visits and close health maintenance gaps.
  3. Perform complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and service for quality patient care; record data and tentative conclusions for review by the physician.
  4. Coordinate and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  5. Carry out patient care services under indirect physician supervision such as wound suturing and dressing changes; monitor progress of patients, maintain a record of the patient's progress, and consult with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.
  6. Plan and schedule work for the physician's team ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of assigned duties.
  7. Participate in clinical research and quality improvement projects conducted by supervising physicians.
  8. Assist in teaching students, interns and residents in complex techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting.
  9. Adhere to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist ambulatory standards.
  10. With the expansion of clinic hours and services, evening / weekend work schedules may be available and / or required.
  11. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

The clinician functions under the regulatory mandate from their respective licensing organization (North Carolina Medical Board or North Carolina Board of Nursing) with departmental specific credentialing from the institution.

Physician Assistant (PA) Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program; Master's Degree preferred
  • Current North Carolina Medical Board Medical License, Certified by NCCPA
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a primary care or urgent/emergent care environment preferred
  • BLS required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English strongly preferred.
