About the Role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for the comprehensive medical/nursing management of assigned patients. The advanced practice provider is expected to exercise prudent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of care and seek appropriate counsel as necessary. The ideal candidate must have the ability to interact effectively and pleasantly with a diverse population. The ability to review detailed data and make quick judgments based on that data. Ability to work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines, interruptions, and high work volume. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of computers and their applications to the related field. The position requires a full range of body motion, including handling patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Working knowledge of computers and their applications to the related field. 50% of the time sitting, 50% walking/moving, and able to transport items weighing less than 20 pounds 5% of the time.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Obtains comprehensive histories and physical examinations that reflect the understanding and presenting complaint of the patient. That includes daily rounding, admission, and discharges that include complete progress notes reflecting the acuity and priority needs of the patients.
  • Functions in the role of an advanced practice provider to coordinate and deliver comprehensive medical/nursing care including following treatment protocols and pathways, writing orders/medications to support the patient’s plan of care, ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiographic studies, and seeking consultation from attending physicians as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with support staff and nursing teams to optimize patient care outcomes effectively. Acts as a resource to nursing, support staff, and students appropriately.
  • Communicates in a timely and effective manner with supervising physician(s) as needed for continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Serves as a patient advocate and provides patient education and/or referrals for optimal outcomes and continuity of care. Provides effective communication with patient/family members that demonstrate sensitivity to their individual needs and concerns.
  • Performs other tasks, procedures, and/or duties within his/her scope of practice as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Certified and licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan.
  • Licensed in the State of Michigan as Physician Assistant.
  • Certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission of Physicians’ Assistants.
  • Holds current BLS card for Health Professionals.
  • Credentialed per CHCWM Policies and Procedures.
  • 2 Years of Experience in Oncology/Hematology.

This employee has access to medical records daily. The parts of the medical record she/he needs to reference to perform his/her job are as follows: Face Sheet Section, Physician Correspondence, Radiology, Pathology, Labs, Hospitalization, History and Physical, Home Health (Encounter Forms), Chemotherapy Flow Sheet (Treatment Section), Dictation, Lab Information System, Pharmacy Information System, Entire Chart/Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

The work environment of advanced practice providers is typically challenging and fast-paced. The position requires a hospitable and flexible manner to adapt to ever-changing priorities. Providers will experience a variety of attitudes, personalities, and patient/family reactions to life-threatening illnesses. Possible exposure to contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and/or radiation may occur.
