• Weekly Estimated Pay: $3,480 - $4,130
• Location: Santa Monica, California (90404) — California healthcare job, Santa Monica healthcare jobs
• Setting: Hospital/Clinic (clinic located inside the hospital) — hospital-based cardiothoracic PA role
• Required Coverage Dates: March 30–April 7 (AM); possible additional coverage April 7–8 (pending confirmation); and April 12–14. Providers must be available for all these dates.
• Proctoring Requirement: Proctoring on a case is required on Saturday, March 29, prior to starting the assignment on Monday, March 30.
• Shift: 7am–3pm, Monday–Friday; on-call rotation 1:2 (with another PA)
• Guaranteed Hours: 8 hours per day (overtime applies after 8 hours/day)
• Patient Encounters Per Shift: 5–8

Required Qualifications

• Active Physician Assistant (PA) license in California (required)
• Active California DEA license (required)
• Board certification (PA-C) required
• Minimum 1 year of clinical experience; 3–5 years cardiothoracic or surgical PA experience highly preferred
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications
• Experience assisting in the OR and ICU/step-down patient management
• Ability to perform radical and endoscopic vein harvesting
• Proficiency interpreting EKGs, chest X-rays, labs, and managing ECMO, IABP, and Impella devices

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Previous locum tenens or short-term hospital assignment experience
• Familiarity with cardiothoracic surgical workflows and perioperative care
• Experience proctoring or onboarding new PAs

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the operating room for cardiothoracic surgical procedures as a surgical PA/OR assist
• Perform radical and endoscopic vein harvesting during CABG and other cardiac procedures
• Interpret EKGs, X-rays, laboratory results, and manage mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, IABP, Impella)
• Provide ICU and step-down unit patient management, including post-op rounds and critical care support
• Round on inpatients and provide clinic care within the hospital setting
• Participate in a 1:2 on-call rotation covering weekday and weekend needs
• Proctor on a case as needed to support onboarding and quality assurance
