Cardiovascular Surgery Physician Assistant Job Details

  • Patient Population: Adult cardiac surgery patients
  • EMR: Epic
  • Trauma Level: Level 2

Physician Assistant Qualifications

  • Active New York Physician Assistant (PA) license
  • NCCPA certification
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in cardiac surgery, including first assist and vein harvesting
  • Proficiency in chest tube insertions and retrieval of vascular tissues for bypass conduit
  • Robotic surgery experience preferred
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills for collaborating with cardiac surgeons and healthcare staff

Cardiac Surgery Physician Assistant Responsibilities

  • First assist in cardiovascular surgery procedures in the operating room
  • Perform chest tube insertions and retrieve vascular tissues for bypass conduits
  • Deliver patient care in the ICU and hospital floor settings
  • Participate in call rotation (1-2 evenings per week, operating call from home)
  • Document patient care using Epic EMR
  • Work under supervision of cardiac surgeons; autonomous practice not required
