Job description We are seeking an experienced Hematology/Oncology Physician Assistant for a 13-week locum tenens assignment in New York. This opportunity begins on Jan 2, 2026, and features day shifts, Monday through Friday (four shifts per week). The position focuses on inpatient neuro oncology care and requires demonstrated experience with chemotherapy/biotherapy administration and lumbar punctures.

Job Details

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday (4 shifts a week), 08:00-18:00

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assess, diagnose, monitor, and promote health and protection from disease for inpatient neuro oncology patients
  • Manage patient conditions within the scope of neuro oncology, including acute and chronic illness
  • Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy as required
  • Perform lumbar punctures with or without chemotherapy
  • Conduct history and physical exams
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities
  • Implement therapeutic interventions for specific conditions
  • Perform arterial punctures, blood gas sampling, incision and drainage of superficial abscesses, and superficial wound care
  • Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
  • Remove central venous catheters
  • Complete Death Certificate Protocols as applicable
  • Assess eligibility and perform intravenous thrombolytic therapy for stroke in collaboration with the stroke team (per policy requirements)
  • Perform EEG interpretation
  • Manage patients in the intensive care setting in accordance with unit policies

Additional Information
  • Active New York PA license required
  • Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certifications required
  • Demonstrated competence in chemotherapy/biotherapy administration (minimum of 10 in the past 12 months)
  • Demonstrated competence in lumbar punctures with or without chemotherapy (minimum of 5 in the past 12 months or completion of relevant training)
  • Experience with adult and geriatric patient populations
  • Candidates must meet requirements for neuro oncology core privileges
