Job description

Job description We are seeking a Hematology/Oncology Physician Assistant for a 16-day locum tenens assignment in New York, starting Jan 2, 2026. This opportunity offers day shifts from 8am to 6pm, with four shifts per week, Monday through Friday. The role is based in an ambulatory heme malignancy department, supporting patient care for those with cancer and related conditions.

  • Schedule: Four shifts per week, Monday-Friday, 8am-6pm

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assess, diagnose, and monitor patients with hematologic malignancies and benign or malignant tumors
  • Promote health and disease protection within the scope of practice of the supervising physician
  • Manage care plans and therapeutic interventions for oncology patients
  • Perform arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
  • Provide debridement and general care for superficial wounds and minor surgical procedures
  • Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
  • Conduct incision and drainage of superficial abscesses
  • Complete interpretation of diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities, including laboratory tests, medications, hemodynamic monitoring, treatments, IV fluids and electrolytes, EMG, electrocardiogram, and radiologic examinations (arthrogram, ultrasound, CT, MRI, bone scan)
  • Perform urinary bladder catheterization (short term and indwelling)
  • Conduct venous punctures for blood sampling, cultures, and IV catheterization
  • Complete death certificate protocols as required
  • Remove arterial catheters, central venous catheters, and chest tubes
  • Perform fine needle aspiration and punch biopsy of skin
  • Prescribe and administer chemotherapy/biotherapy, demonstrating competence through recent experience

Additional Information
  • Active New York state license required
  • Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certifications required
  • Must demonstrate recent experience in chemotherapy/biotherapy administration (minimum of 10 administrations in the past 12 months)
  • Strong knowledge of hematology and oncology patient management preferred
