Job description We are seeking a Hematology/Oncology Physician Assistant for a locum tenens role in New York. This assignment starts Jan 2, 2026, spans 1 week, and offers a Monday to Friday schedule with day shifts from 8:00am to 6:00pm. The successful candidate will provide ambulatory sickle cell outpatient coverage and manage a range of hematology and oncology cases.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assess, diagnose, monitor, and manage care for patients with various cancers and hematologic diseases, including benign and malignant tumors
  • Provide ambulatory sickle cell outpatient coverage
  • Prescribe and administer chemotherapy and biotherapy (must have documented competence with at least 10 administrations in the past 12 months)
  • Perform arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
  • Provide debridement and general care for superficial wounds and minor superficial surgical procedures
  • Perform incision and drainage of superficial abscesses
  • Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and therapeutic modalities, including laboratory tests, medications, hemodynamic monitoring, IV fluids, and radiologic exams (such as ultrasound, CT, MRI, bone scan)
  • Perform urinary bladder catheterization (short term and indwelling)
  • Perform venous punctures for blood sampling, cultures, and IV catheterization
  • Complete Death Certificate Protocols
  • Remove arterial catheters, central venous catheters, and chest tubes
  • Perform fine needle aspiration and punch biopsy of skin

Additional Information
  • Current PA license in New York required
  • Must hold Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) credentials
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certifications required
  • Board certifications accepted: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP-BC), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGPCNP-BC), Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification (ANP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP)
  • Must demonstrate recent competence in chemotherapy/biotherapy administration
