Locum Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant needed in Iowa

Seeking a PRN Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant to provide sole-provider coverage for both the Emergency Department and Med/Surg units. This role is ideal for an experienced PA comfortable managing low-volume ED patients and inpatient care independently with nursing and ancillary support. The position offers extensive date coverage needs from December 2025 through May 2026.

Job Details & Responsibilities

• Practice Setting: Emergency Department & Med/Surg (sole provider coverage)

• Inpatient Responsibilities: Yes

• Outreach / Telehealth: No

• Support:

  • Nursing: 1 provider + 2 RNs

  • Ancillary: 1 Paramedic; occasional CNAs/NPNs

• Team Structure:

  • Physicians: 2

  • APPs: 1

  • No supervision of APPs required

• Procedures / Care Provided: Emergency care, inpatient management, skilled care

• Exam Rooms: 2 per provider

• Onsite Services: Medical imaging, lab, pharmacy

• Volumes:

  • ED: ~3.6 patients/day

  • Med/Surg census: ~1.4 patients/day

• EMR: EPIC

• Privileges: Temporary privileges available (no emergency privileges)

• Board Certification

• Active Iowa License

• DEA & CSR in hand

• Experience functioning independently in ED and inpatient settings

• Proficiency with emergency procedures and inpatient management

• Comfortable using EPIC EMR
