Join a leader in neurosciences that is expanding AND seeking Neuro ICU/OR Physician Assistant !

This role would incorporate 30% Operating Room Neurosurgery first assisting and 70% Neuro Critical Care / Floor Work Responsibilities. This would be 60% day shift and 40% nights on a rotating schedule.

This Opening is involved in all facets of the neurosurgery department (operating room, icu, floor work). Each candidate will be involved in OR first Assisting. Our neurosurgery department is in growth mode and we will be seeking leaders, clinicians to manage this patient population.

The Neurosciences Advanced Practitioner provides operating room first assisting, coverage to manage hospitalized neurologic/neurosurgical patients within the NIU and neurosciences floor as well as future Neuro-ICU. Works in partnership with neurology and neurosurgical Advanced Practice clinicians, intensivists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, hospitalists and other medical consultants to set and manage care and provide care coordination.Completes daily rounds on all assigned patients and documents ongoing medical plan/ patient progress. Provides specialty consults and orders diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications, therapies based on evidenced based practice. Actively reviews all imaging studies; x-rays, CTs and MRI scans in conjunction with physicians. Establishes patient discharge plans and completes comprehensive discharge summary and medication reconciliation process. Partners with attending physician, case managers and nursing staff to construct and initiate a post discharge plan for outpatients services. (Rehab, post-acute, VNA). Performs selected procedures (under direction of supervising physician), including ventriculostomies, placement of ICP monitors, insertion of lumbar drains, lumbar punctures, central line placement and arterial lines, based on competency based credentialing.

Clinical Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of a physician, provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health care services. Provides a broad spectrum of comprehensive medical services, treating patients with physical ailments, which range from superficial injuries to acute medical disorders. Case mix complexity varies from routine to complex cases with appropriate supervision but increased autonomy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assesses patient health by interview and by obtaining and/or updating medical history. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
2. Performs physical examinations and provides treatment and counsel. Recognizes and evaluates patients who require the immediate attention of a physician and, when necessary, initiates emergency medical treatment without supervision.
3. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests and laboratory studies. Follows-up on x-rays and laboratory data. Interprets diagnostic test results.
4. Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, post-operative care and management of wound care and infections. Utilizes diagnostic techniques, such as observation, palpation, percussion or auscultation.
5. Counsels patients regarding prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.
6. Maintains accurate and complete patient records. Develops and implements patient management plans, records procedure and progress notes and discharge summaries, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
7. Maintains a safe and clean work environment by ensuring compliance with infection-control policies and protocols and other safety procedures and regulations.
8. Develops and provides education related to pre and post-operative evaluation and treatment plans.
9. Provide oversight of all surgical cases related to scheduling and medical clearance
10. Provides assistance to physicians during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
11. May prescribe medication.
12. Performs other related duties
