We are hiring an experienced critical care nurse practitioner for the medical ICU dept in a busy hospital!

Work only 3 12 hour shifts per week rotating days/nights!

The Critical Care Advanced Practitioner is a member of the intensive care team and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of a caseload of critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients in an intensive care setting.

The critical care advanced practice provider is under the direct supervision of the ICU supervising physician or designated back-up physicians. The candidate has the specialized skill and knowledge related to the unique ICU setting in which she/he practices and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations prescribes appropriate interventions and medications and provides direct patient care services in a specific ICU or step-down unit.

The candidate contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession. Description: Provide direct clinical services for critically ill adult patients with multi-organ trauma or multi-system failure, according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the ICU supervising physician. Obtain patient health histories and complete physical examinations. Document findings noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patients, patient family, staff, and healthcare learners. Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient clinical status to include the performance of procedures to include central lines, arterial lines, temporary hemodialysis catheters, paracentesis, thoracentesis and lumbar puncture Document patient preparation and response to procedure(s). Formulate and implement treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back-up physician(s) Participate in and lead multidisciplinary rounds. Document in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries. Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient. Provide family-centered care by communicating with the family regarding the hanging health care needs of their family member. Assess family adaptation, coping skills and the need for crisis or other intervention. Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.

Perform and participate in quality performance improvement activities and clinical research. Role model advanced practice profession through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem- solving skills. Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program.
• If a Nurse Practitioner, must be a Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

Maintain certification through Clinical Education Units. Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certification and current license to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. DEA number and Mass Department of Public Health Division of Food and Drug Restricted Substances registration number as appropriate. Written prescription privilege protocols signed by all attendings with whom the individual will be working. Must be proficient in the placement and management of Vascular Access catheters including arterial catheters, and central venous catheters. Must be able to perform basic Ventilator management. Successful candidate must have critical care advanced practitioner experience.

Schedule Details: 36 Hrs/Wk. Rotating Days. Shifts 7am-7pm & 7pm-7am. Weekends
