Locum Neuro - Trauma/Critical Care Physician Assistant needed in Redding California

Neuro-Trauma / Neurosurgery ICU PA

Seeking a Physician Assistant with neuro-trauma and/or neuro-critical care experience to provide coverage for gaps in service. This role focuses on ICU management of emergency neurosurgical patients involving brain, neck, and spine conditions.

Practice Setting

• Level II Trauma Center

• Neuro-Trauma / Neurosurgery ICU

• Average census: 15–20 ICU patients per provider per day

• EMR: Cerner Care B

Coverage & Schedule

• Multiple coverage blocks available from January through December

• Reason for coverage: Gaps in coverage

• Estimated credentialing timeframe: 30–60 days from receipt of a complete application

Clinical Responsibilities

• ICU management of neurosurgical and trauma patients

• Low to moderate risk procedures:

  • Laceration repair

  • Peripheral IV access

  • Fracture and dislocation reductions (minimal/moderate displacement)

• High-risk procedures:

  • G-tube placement

  • Endotracheal intubation

  • Cardioversion/defibrillation

  • LMA placement

  • Paracentesis

  • Chest tube placement

  • Central and arterial line insertion

• APPs do not assist in surgery

Travel Considerations

• Local providers preferred

• Lodging must align with established travel policy

• Travel exceptions must be disclosed at submission

Candidate Requirements

• Certified PA (NCCPA)

• Active state license

• Minimum 1 year of neurosurgery, neuro-critical care, or neurology experience

• ACLS required; ATLS preferred but not mandatory with strong neuro experience

• DEA required

• Clean malpractice history

• Must hold active staff privileges at a TJC-accredited facility (not locum-only privileges)

• Availability must be provided at time of name clear
