Overview

The Mental Health Services Assistant is responsible for supporting the safe and ethical care for clients. Under close supervision, assists in performing routine duties to include medication administration, inventory control, and storage of pharmaceutical items. Additionally this position is a qualified clerical person and is responsible and accountable for the maintenance of health records.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma / GED required. Medication Aide Certification highly desired at point of hire.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year recent and provable experience working with medications highly desirable. Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terms and knowledge/understanding of the laws and regulations related to nursing and medication.
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent and provable experience operating medically related equipment.
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent and provable experience with medical records management.
  • Ability to prepare medications for delivery.
  • Inventory tracking experience required.
  • Ability to read/write/speak and communicate in fluent English required.
  • Technical skills sufficient to complete electronic reports, spreadsheets, and emails required.
  • Ability and willingness to employ empathetic listening, tact and kindness towards others required.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must have and be able to maintain a current valid driver’s license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensures confidentiality of all medical records information and completed forms for release of information. Refers any requests of questionable nature to the Supervisor.

  2. Ensures the confidentiality and rights of patients, the confidentiality of the health systems and department documentation, and adhere to all HIPAA regulations and release information to persons or agencies according to recognized rules and regulations for continuity of care.

  3. Responds to requests for records in a timely fashion.

  4. Ensures necessary Releases of Information are in the resident client’s record when required.

  5. Maintains HIPPA disclosure log.
