Cardiology Physician Assistant (Night Shift)
Position Summary
The Cardiology Physician Assistant (PA) provides advanced clinical care to hospitalized patients with cardiovascular conditions during overnight hours. Working collaboratively with cardiologists and the inpatient care team, the PA manages acute cardiac issues, responds to clinical changes, and ensures continuity of cardiovascular care throughout the night.
Key Responsibilities

Provide overnight coverage for cardiology inpatients under physician supervision

Perform patient assessments, cross-cover evaluations, and urgent consultations

Respond to acute cardiac events and changes in patient condition

Manage common inpatient cardiology issues, including chest pain, arrhythmias, heart failure exacerbations, and blood pressure abnormalities

Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests including ECGs, telemetry data, laboratory studies, and imaging

Adjust cardiac medications and therapies in accordance with established protocols

Assist with urgent bedside procedures within scope of practice (e.g., cardioversion support, temporary pacing support, line placement)

Collaborate with nursing, ICU teams, pharmacy, and consulting services as needed

Communicate significant clinical events to on-call cardiologists

Provide thorough handoff to the daytime cardiology team

Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record

Support patient safety initiatives and adherence to inpatient cardiology protocols
Patient Population
-
Adult hospitalized patients with cardiovascular disease
-
Conditions may include acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, heart failure, post-procedural monitoring, and hemodynamic instability
Schedule
-
Night shift only
-
Includes weekends and holidays as required by service coverage
Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program

Current national certification as a Physician Assistant

Active or eligible state licensure
-
BLS and ACLS certification required

Prior cardiology, hospital medicine, ICU, or emergency medicine experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong cardiovascular assessment and clinical decision-making skills

Ability to manage acute issues with limited overnight resources

Proficiency in ECG interpretation and telemetry monitoring

Excellent communication, teamwork, and handoff skills

Ability to function effectively in high-acuity, overnight clinical environments
Work Environment

Inpatient cardiology units, step-down units, and ICU settings

Overnight coverage with exposure to high-acuity cardiac patients
-
Requires standing, walking, and rapid response to emergent situations
