Inpatient | High-Acuity Surgical Program | Washington State
A leading inpatient cardiothoracic surgery program is seeking an experienced Locum PA or NP to join a high-volume cardiac and thoracic surgery service following a staff retirement. This role requires strong cardiothoracic experience, including robotic thoracic procedures, and offers competitive hourly, call, and holiday compensation.

Team Structure:

5 permanent surgeons (3 cardiac, 2 thoracic)

4 mid-level providers (3 PAs, 1 NP, 1 in training)

Case Volume:
-
6–8 cardiac cases/week

9–12 thoracic cases/week
-

Patient Load: ~20 adult patients per day
📅 Schedule & Call Expectations

Weekdays: 3–4 call days per week
-
Typical hours: 0700–1500 (may extend based on case volume)

Call Days:

Expect 10–12+ hours of work when on call

Weekend Call:
-
1:4 rotation
-
Typically 6–8+ hours per weekend day

Pager Call:
-
24-hour pager coverage on assigned call days

🩺 Scope of Practice
-
Pre- and post-operative patient evaluation and management
-
OR First Assist
-
Coronary artery bypass and valve surgeries
-
Aortic and aortic arch reconstruction
-
Robotic-assisted thoracic surgeries (required)
-
Endoscopic vein harvest
-
Open radial artery harvest
-
Minimally invasive valve procedures
-
VATS and DaVinci robotic thoracic procedures
-
Thoracic and foregut surgeries
-
ICU and step-down unit management
-
Emergent floor procedures (chest tubes, arterial lines, etc.)
-
Daily rounds and discharge summaries
-
Evening, night, and weekend surgeries
-
Weekend rounds
-
Urgent/walk-in clinic coverage when primary surgeon unavailable
-
Clinic wound checks as needed
✅ Submission Requirements
-
Board Certification
-
ACLS, BLS, DEA
-
Minimum 3 years CV/CT surgery experience
-
Clean malpractice history
-
Active Washington license (highly preferred; IMLC considered)

Robotic thoracic experience is required (90% of thoracic cases)
