Job description
This locum tenens opportunity is for an experienced Cardiac Surgical Nurse Practitioner supporting cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons in both ICU/CVICU and surgical settings. The role involves managing adult and geriatric patients, coordinating care, and handling clinical responsibilities such as rounding, interpreting tests, and prescribing. Candidates should have prior cardiothoracic or critical care experience, as new graduates are not eligible.
Dates / Schedule
- Coverage period: April through July (specific dates TBD)
- Includes OR call and ICU/CVICU call responsibilities
- Credentialing timeframe: 60–90 days
- Temporary privileges possible in approximately 45 days
Job Details / Responsibilities
- Report directly to Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons
- Manage 5–20 patients per day (adult and geriatric population)
- Work within the Epic EMR system
- Core duties include:
- Patient rounding and care coordination
- Writing prescriptions
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests
- Vein harvesting
- Additional (not required but possible):
- Assisting in surgery
- Retrieval of vascular tissues for bypass conduits
- Surgical NP candidates will be considered
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Board Certification (ANCC or AANP) – Required
- ACLS certification – Required
- COVID-19 vaccination – Required
- Experience:
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred
- Critical care experience acceptable
- No new graduates
- Licensure:
- Ohio state license preferred (or ability to obtain quickly)
- NPDB Self-Query Report (dated within 30 days) – Required
