Job description
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join a high-performing cardiothoracic surgery team in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This permanent, full-time opportunity is ideal for an advanced practice provider with strong cardiac surgery and ICU management experience who is passionate about delivering patient-centered, high-quality cardiovascular care. The role offers a dynamic blend of operating room support, ICU and inpatient rounding, and outpatient clinic responsibilities within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Job Responsibilities
• Assist in cardiac surgical procedures, including endoscopic vein harvesting and first assisting as needed
• Manage postoperative and critical care patients in the CVICU and step-down units
• Participate in scheduled outpatient clinics, including two full clinic days per week
• Rotate through operating room coverage during weekday hours
• Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and follow-up care
• Prescribe medications and perform bedside procedures within scope of practice
• Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and allied health professionals
• Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough clinical documentation
• Participate in shared call coverage and provide clinical support as required
Qualifications
• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (ANCC or AANP)
• Minimum of 3 years of cardiothoracic or cardiovascular surgery experience
• Strong ICU patient management experience
• Active Colorado Nurse Practitioner license or eligibility to obtain
• Active DEA registration with full prescriptive authority
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
• Clean professional background with no exclusions or sanctions
• Ability to function independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
Working Hours
• Weekday coverage with rotating on-call responsibilities
• Rotating weekday and weekend call schedule
