Join Our Team as a Surgery Oncology Nurse Practitioner – Make a Difference in Cancer Care

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgery Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our renowned Allina Health Cancer Institute, a leader in comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment. This full-time role offers the opportunity to work within a top-rated industrial and compassionate environment, providing specialized care for patients undergoing Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) surgeries. As part of our expert team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional outpatient and inpatient care, supporting patients throughout their cancer journey, and collaborating closely with surgical teams to ensure optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive clinical care for patients, including assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Coordinate pre- and post-surgical patient care, ensuring seamless communication with surgeons and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assist in the operating room as needed, including patient prepping, intraoperative support, and wound/ drain care.
  • Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical equipment in collaboration with physicians.
  • Conduct patient education on treatment plans, chronic illness management, and wellness strategies.
  • Serve as a resource and educator for staff and patients, promoting high-quality care standards.
  • Collaborate with hospital staff through rounding and consults to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Handle administrative and procedural tasks such as wound care and drain removal.

Required Skills:
  • Valid Minnesota license for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Proven experience in surgical oncology, preferably with Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic (HPB) specialization.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency in patient education and chronic disease management.

Nice to Have Skills:
  • Experience assisting in surgical procedures in the operating room.
  • Knowledge of oncology-specific treatment protocols.
  • Bilingual abilities or additional language skills.
  • Familiarity with clinical documentation systems.

Preferred Education & Experience:
  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN or DNP).
  • At least 2 years of directly related surgical oncology experience.
  • Prior experience in inpatient and outpatient settings.

Other Requirements:
  • Must hold an active MN nursing license.
  • Ability to handle physically demanding tasks related to surgical procedures and patient care.
  • Willingness to work day shifts (07:30 – 16:00) Monday through Friday.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care.
