Job description We are seeking an experienced Surgical Oncology Nurse Practitioner for a locum tenens assignment in New York. This 20-day opportunity begins Jan 2, 2026, with Monday-Friday shifts (four shifts per week), 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The role focuses on ambulatory breast surgical oncology, providing comprehensive perioperative care within a dynamic clinical environment.

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday (4 shifts a week), 08:00-18:00

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assess, diagnose, monitor, and manage health in pre-, intra-, and post-operative settings for breast surgical oncology patients
  • Develop and implement treatment plans and provide health counseling
  • Perform history and physical exams, including pelvic exams as indicated
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and therapeutic modalities within specialty scope
  • Implement therapeutic interventions for specific conditions when appropriate
  • Perform arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
  • Conduct debridement and general care for superficial wounds and minor surgical procedures
  • Perform incision and drainage of superficial abscesses
  • Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
  • Conduct anoscopy as indicated
  • Harvest and place skin grafts
  • Participate in volume replacement or auto-transfusion techniques as appropriate
  • Perform field infiltration of anesthetic solutions
  • Remove chest tubes, arterial catheters, central venous catheters, drains, and surgical staples
  • Select and apply appropriate wound dressings, including immobilizing and medicated dressings

Additional Information
  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license required
  • Board certifications accepted: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP-BC), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGPCNP-BC), Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification (ANP-BC), Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP)
  • Required certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Must have completed NP/PA Core and Surgical Core training
  • Must comply with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) standards
