Job description

Job description We are seeking an experienced Surgical Oncology Nurse Practitioner for a 16-day locum tenens assignment in New York. This opportunity starts Jan 2, 2026, with orientation followed by clinical work beginning Jan 5, 2026, and features day shifts, Monday through Friday, four shifts per week. The assignment focuses on ambulatory breast surgical oncology within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday (4 shifts a week), 08:00-18:00

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Assess, diagnose, and monitor patients in ambulatory breast surgical oncology
  • Manage pre-, intra-, and post-operative care and treatment plans
  • Perform history and physical exams, including pelvic exams as appropriate
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities within specialty
  • Implement therapeutic interventions for specific conditions
  • Conduct arterial puncture and blood gas sampling
  • Perform debridement and care for superficial wounds and minor surgical procedures
  • Perform incision and drainage of superficial abscesses
  • Insert and remove non-weighted nasogastric or oro-gastric tubes
  • Conduct anoscopy and participate in harvesting and placing skin grafts
  • Remove chest tubes, arterial catheters, central venous catheters, and drains
  • Remove surgical staples and apply appropriate wound dressings

Additional Information
  • Active New York NP license required
  • Board certifications required: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGACNP-BC), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification (AGPCNP-BC), Adult Nurse Practitioner Certification (ANP-BC), or Family Nurse Practitioner Certification (FNP)
  • Must hold current ARC-PA, ACLS, and BCLS certifications
  • Clinical privileges and procedures must be supported by documented training and experience
  • Patient care is provided to the age group designated by specialty and certification
