Job description
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment within a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). This role focuses on rapid assessment, short-term intervention, crisis management, and coordination of care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric distress. The PMHNP collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, patient-centered, trauma-informed care.
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, and risk assessments (suicide, violence, substance withdrawal, etc.).
- Develop and implement crisis stabilization treatment plans tailored to the patient’s immediate needs.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including initiation, titration, and monitoring for effectiveness and side effects.
- Perform crisis intervention and de-escalation using trauma-informed approaches.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests, screenings, and other diagnostics as clinically indicated.
- Provide short-term therapy, psychoeducation, and supportive counseling.
Job Responsibilities
