Job description
This role involves providing psychiatric care to an adult patient population within a correctional facility setting. The PMHNP will perform mental health evaluations, diagnose psychiatric conditions, and create individualized treatment plans for patients aged 18 and older. Responsibilities include prescribing and managing psychotropic medications, offering crisis intervention for acute cases, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care. The position requires strong clinical judgment, adherence to state regulations, and the ability to work in a secure environment with patients across minimum, medium, and maximum-security levels.
Job Responsibilities
• Diagnose mental health conditions and develop individualized treatment plans
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with best practices
• Provide crisis intervention and manage acute psychiatric cases
• Perform diagnostic testing, screenings, and ongoing patient monitoring
• Educate patients and families on psychiatric illnesses, treatment options, and medication management
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and maintain required agreements per state regulations
• Document all patient interactions and treatment plans accurately in the EMR system
Qualifications
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally accredited organization (e.g., AANP, ANCC) preferred
• Specialty certification as required by client or state regulations
• Minimum one year of experience as a PMHNP (corrections experience is a plus)
• At least three years of experience in the mental health field preferred
• Active DEA and BLS certifications
• Ability to maintain collaboration agreements per state requirements
• Current CPR certification (if applicable)
• Compliance with TB screening and health certificate requirements
