Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Director provides both clinical and operational oversight of the Behavioral Health Department at the Anav Tribal Health Clinic (ATHC).
ATHC offers primary care, full-service dental, and mental health services, including individual therapy and psychiatric medication assessment and management.

This role includes clinical work and administrative leadership, guiding the department’s growth and promoting behavioral health and primary care integration in a rural tribal community setting.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and promote culturally appropriate behavioral health prevention and treatment programs for Native Americans.
• Provide clinical consultation and advocacy with cultural sensitivity.
• Oversee the development and implementation of protocols for communication, referral, documentation, data collection, and reporting.
• Participate in agency and interagency meetings.
• Coordinate and promote community outreach activities and other agency services.
• Serve as a leader on a multidisciplinary team integrating mental health, substance abuse treatment, and primary care.
• Lead and participate in quality assurance activities, including chart reviews.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations for team members.
• Provide new employee orientation and training as needed.
• Attend, develop, and deliver relevant professional training sessions.
• Meet regularly with the Clinic Manager and seek supervision as needed.
• Provide consultation and crisis response as required, including on-call services.
• Deliver education, prevention, and training related to substance abuse, social work, and mental health.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret Behavioral Health data to identify service trends and areas for improvement.
• Provide counseling and case management, maintaining accurate documentation in client files.
• Manage grant-funded youth programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Requirements:
• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
• Current California licensure as LCSW or LMFT (required).
• Minimum two years of clinical supervision experience.
• Alcohol and Drug Certification preferred.
• Minimum five years’ experience serving adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Experience integrating behavioral health and primary care preferred.
• Experience providing community-based services preferred.
• Knowledge of local service systems, including mental health, housing, and homeless services.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and collaborate effectively with staff, clients, and the community.
• Experience working within American Indian/Alaska Native communities preferred.
• If in recovery, must have a minimum of two years’ sobriety/clean time.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and DMV record review.
• Grant writing and management experience highly desirable.

Working Hours

Assignment Details
• 13-week contract assignment with potential for permanent full-time employment.
• Mon – Friday 8am – 5pm – 40hr week
• $100 per hour compensation.
• Includes both clinical responsibilities and administrative oversight.
• California license required.
