Job Description:

Pediatric Heart Center APP (Pediatric Cardiology)

This Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will join our pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program at Primary Children's Hospital located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The APP works with other APPs in conjunction with and under the direction of cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiologists to provide care for patients with congenital heart disease. This APP primarily spends time managing post-operative patients on the inpatient floors, but also may assist with ICU cardiology consults and outpatient visits. This APP does not have OR responsibilities.

This is a full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week. Schedule will include six to eight daytime shifts per bi-weekly pay period, with built in hours available for required training, research, meetings, and documentation. This position is staffed 365 days a year which requires rotating schedules to cover weekends, and holidays. There is a rotating at home night call requirement with additional compensation for call time.

Primary Children’s Hospital’s Heart Center is a collaboration of providers from Intermountain Health and the University of Utah. It is highly respected and nationally ranked for delivering outstanding care to patients with congenital heart disease.


Prior inpatient pediatric or cardiology experience will help you be successful in this role.

Job Essentials


Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as:

  • Primarily manage inpatient pediatric patients with congenital heart disease including assessment, diagnosis, medication management, treatment, and timely documentation. Daily rounding and placing orders on inpatients with cardiologists, fellows, and APP team.
  • Perform CICU cardiology consultations, outpatient visits, and patient family phone calls.
  • Timely respond to acute patient changes, support staff needs, and exam results.
  • Educate patient, patient's family, clinical staff, and others regarding all aspects of care.
  • Consult and coordinate with other healthcare providers.
  • Continually participate in weekly learning opportunities and committees in order to gain optimal career development and achieve best patient care and outcomes.


Advanced Practice Providers may also participate in research, utilize evidence-based practice to improve quality patient care, protocol development, care process model development, and best practice standards for assigned patient population throughout our organization.
