Responsibilities:

  • Full-time permanent position - Nephrology
  • Weekdays only - Monday-Friday
  • No nights and no weekends
  • Mix of dialysis rounds and CKD clinic duties
  • Diseases treated include: Chronic Kidney Disease, Acute Kidney Injury, End-Stage Renal Disease, Post-Kidney Transplant Care, Resistant Hypertension, Electrolyte Disorders, Polycystic Kidney Diseases, Glomerulonephritis, Lupus Nephritis, Amyloidosis​
  • Round on patients receiving hemodialysis twice per month for the dialysis units and shifts assigned
  • Manage patients with CKD stages 1-5, typically alternating visits with the patient’s nephrologist
  • Manage anemia through the use of erythropoietin stimulating agents (ESA) and iron injections
  • Provide CKD education for patients with advanced CKD, comorbidities, Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) options and end-of-life issues
  • Develop differential diagnoses and collaborate with nephrologists to develop and implement plans of care
  • Collect, order, and interpret lab work and diagnostic studies under agreed upon protocols
  • Recognize abnormalities and provide services and treatments as directed by protocols and nephrologists and make referrals to other healthcare-related disciplines and/or services

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a nurse practitioner in nephrology or relevant specialty
  • Pervious nursing experience in nephrology or primary care, internal medicine, etc.
  • Texas Nurse Practitioner license and DEA license
