Summary of Position

Nurse Practitioners provide medical services in collaboration with a physician, for patients in primary care as well as in medical and surgical specialty areas.

Principal Accountabilities

• Obtains and documents patient history as appropriate to chief complaint or reason for visit.
  
• Conducts relevant physical exam and evaluates patient, documenting pertinent positive and negative findings.
  
• Diagnoses and treats disease and manages chronic illness.
  
• Prescribes medication in accordance with New York State and federal law.
  
• Orders appropriate laboratory, radiological and special examinations or tests; interprets results
  
• Provides preventative health services, including health education and counseling.
  
• Collaborates with other clinicians and staff members to ensure continuity of care of patients
• Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications

• Bachelor’s Degree
  
• Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner education program registered by the NYS Education Department
  
• Master’s Degree
  
• Licensed and currently registered as a Registered Nurse by NYS
  
• Current New York State Registration as Nurse Practitioner
  
• Current Board Certification as an NP from a NYS approved accrediting body

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 1-3 years of related experience
• Experience working with diverse populations in an ambulatory healthcare setting.
  
• BLS
  
• ACLS strongly preferred
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
